Slumped in a diner booth, ketchup-stained napkin in hand, scribbling apologies, mad at things that I said. That jagged edge, the way I’d love her one minute and shove her away the next, it’s got a name: borderline personality disorder. I’ve walked that tightrope, and maybe it’s tugged at you too. You’ve come to the right place if you need some quotes with how you are feeling. Also, I want to encourage you to not just sit in that place. Get the help that you need.
Raw Waves Crashing
I’d sit on my fire escape some nights, city lights buzzing below, my mood flipping from giddy to gutted faster than I could blink. I just don’t want to be and feel this way.
- “I drown in feelings too big to hold.”
- “One minute I soar, the next I crash.”
- “The heart has its reasons which reason knows not.” Blaise Pascal
- “Every emotion hits like a brick wall.”
- “I’m a sea that storms itself.”
- “Too much floods me, then leaves me dryy.”
- “Joy turns to ash in my mouth quick.
- “I ride waves that break me apart.”
- “The rush owns me before I own it.”
- “Feelings roar, and I’m the echo.”
Shattered Self Puzzle
I’d catch my reflection in a cracked car window after a fight, wondering if that hollow stare was me or just a mask I’d taped on. You are not alone. I want you to always remember this.
- “I shift shapes like smoke in a breeze.”
- “The real me slips away every day.”
- “I am not one, but many.” Sylvia Plath
- “Mirrors show a stranger I can’t name.”
- “I’m a kaleidoscope, spinning too fast.”
- “Who I am bends with every shadow.”
- “Pieces of me scatter, then regroup.”
- “I wear a face until it falls off.”
- “The self I know fades at dusk.”
- “I chase an outline that won’t stay.”
Clutch and Release
I’d text a friend thirty times in an hour once, begging her to stay, then block her number when she did, my chest tight with dread either way. That push-pull, the terror of being left, it’s BPD’s cruel dance. These quotes wrap around that grip, the desperate tug of needing and fearing. Have you felt this?
- “I cling until my hands bleed empty.”
- “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Franklin D. Roosevelt
- “I pull close what I push away.”
- “Love chokes me, then sets me free.”
- “I build walls around what I crave.”
- “They slip, or I shove, it’s all loss.”
- “Fear of alone drives me to alone.”
- “I need them near until I don’t.”
- “Every bond frays in my grip.”
- “I hold tight, then watch them fade.”
Blaze of Impulse
BPD lights a fuse—anger, recklessness, regret—and you’re left in the smoke. You can grow as I have in negative impulses. What has helped me was Jesus and he can help you too!
- “I spark and blaze before I think.”
- “Rage paints me red, then washes gray.”
- “The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.” W.B. Yeats
- “I shatter calm with my own hands.”
- “Impulse leaps, and I follow blind.”
- “Fury’s a guest I can’t evict.”
- “I break what’s whole to feel alive.”
- “The heat takes me, then leaves me cold.”
- “I’m the match and the wildfire.”
- “Chaos calls, and I answer loud.”
Threads of Steady Ground
I’d curl up under a quilt after a meltdown, whispering to myself that tomorrow could be softer, clutching a mug like a lifeline. You might get knocked down but why does that not mean that you can life yourself up. You can. Please seek a counselor as I did, preferably a Christian counselor as they will point you to Jesus.
- “Breathe deep when the wave hits high.”
- “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience.” Eleanor Roosevelt
- “Name the feeling, let it pass slow.”
- “Step back before the fire eats you.”
- “Hold one truth: this won’t last forever.”
- “Write the rage, don’t wield it wild.”
- “Find an anchor, even if it’s small.”
- “Pause, count ten, reclaim your air.”
- “Ask for help, it’s not a surrender.”
- “Build a corner where you can rest.”
